Painting with Pink

Dear Reader,

At long last we determined that the papier mache on Robin's shelving was done. Simply put we couldn't wait any longer to pick up the paint brush.

And so, the Aliens dived in with an initial white-wash.

Closely followed by some pretty pink.

Who knew that underneath it all our Aliens were hippies :)

It is kind of nice, and fitting, to think that the substructure of Robin's furniture is layered in love.

Then, after apply the final touches to Robin's shelves, the Aliens moved on to their, now-traditional, post-painting celebration (look carefully at those hands in the final photo). Suffice it to say a twenty minute shower was required!

Ed's Windowsill

Dear Reader,

With a little help from Alien One on the gorgeous green grass, Ed's pots had their base layers complete and were ready for some colorful additions.

While the Aliens reveled in their own floral fabrications, I simply raided the reserve from the outdoor climbing scenes we shot earlier.

Put into the pots, and placed on Ed's windowsill and the cat burglary scene is now almost ready to shoot.

In fact, we're actually slated to roll camera on August 1st :)

PS I think the potted plants will definitely turn into another Squirrel King kit.

Continuity Chaos

Dear Reader,

When it rains, it pours! Alien One now has a gapping gap on her lower gum. I think the following little clip really encapsulates better than any explanation I can offer what exactly has happened.

The tooth fairy is no doubt pleased with the replacement offering, but it's less clear how she will come good on the teeth to ear-rings request :)

Potted Plants

Dear Reader,

With windows well-constructed, we turned to more masking tape and began the job of adorning said sills. Yesterday's task: begin the potted plants.

Ed would no doubt be delighted by our progress on his lofty lawn.

Myself, I am just as tickled by Alien One's graduation to supervised use of a glue-gun (my own personal revolution of 2010). Mind you, as you might have guessed, summer vacation plans soon took over with a trip to the local pool. With some luck our friendly fabric ceramics will get potted today :)

Alien Architects

Dear Reader,

Yesterday started with a combination of two of the Aliens' favorite pastimes: chopping and sticking!

By the time we'd worked our way through Alien Two's enthusiastic effort the underlying structure was solid as the wooden frame it mimicked.

A change of wardrobe, and we moved to phase two ...

Plaster with paint! The bulk of which remarkably ended up on the window-frames :)

And after a day of drying, we have two little birdies perched on the sills.

Splints, Teeth and Patching the Gaps

Dear Reader,

What a holiday weekend!

A splint made from an eye-solution box, taped to reinforce the weak link in Robin's bookshelf, was permanently papier mached into place, adding another layer of invisible history to the wonderfully (and soon to be colorfully) curvaceous shelves.

Meanwhile, if you look carefully, you'll see Alien One lost her first tooth, though the loosely attached neighbor quickly wiggled over to take advantage of the vacant space.

After researching the literature (a book on how lost teeth are dealt with throughout the world) Alien One put a special request to the tooth fairy, who now has said tooth. With a little trepidation we are patiently waiting to see what peculiar gift the tooth fairy returns; apparently it'll take a couple of weeks to fulfill the request.

Miniature Trees

Dear Reader,

Yesterday was spent prepping a forest for Ed's arrival, or at least the miniature side of the affair.

Vivian, our squirrel queen, brought over the raw materials and the Aliens and I started gluing leaves to twigs.

As it happened leftover leaf veins from our larger cardboard trees served perfectly as precut twigs, saving a step - a rare victory for my side of the on-going debate with the Trouble and Strife over my pack-rat tendencies to squirrel away unused elements :)

I'm sure you'll agree with Alien Two that the final product is going to be a perfect miniature double for our larger trees. I can't wait to see the felt truck in amidst them!
