The Zen of Pyrotechnics

Dear Reader,

A central theme of The Squirrel King is the importance of simply partaking.

My cogitations on this theme often revert to the art of Buddhist monk sand drawings (which are swept away once completed), however, today being the 4th of July, I couldn't help considering the similarities to fireworks.

So for those of you in America, take an extra breath to savor the journey that brings you tonight's pyrotechnic displays. Those of you outside America may have to wait a little longer for a fireworks display, but in the interim, you can meditate on Werner Herzog's narration of the Buddhist monk's mandala sand art.
